The Right Words Make All The Difference

Regardless of the context, words tell stories.  Words inform, engage and motivate people — for better and for worse.  The right words can build a following, a reputation, a business, even a nation.  The wrong words can tear any of these down in little more than a heartbeat.

Effective writing has many components:  understanding the message and the audience; choosing the appropriate style and tone; being aware of the overall context; and using the exact words to achieve exactly the desired result — among so many others.

I have been a professional writer for nearly forty years.  I have won numerous awards; much more important, I have helped dozens of clients achieve their business objectives.  I have successfully obtained millions of dollars in grants.  I have entertained readers, informed them, inspired them.  I have moved people to thought, to dialogue, to action.

For business and organizational clients, I write virtually every type of communication: brochures, newsletters, website text, advertising in all formats, presentations, speeches, proposals and grants, training materials — anything but the most technical manuals.  A sample list of business fields I have worked in can be found on the Home page.  In journalism, I have written for publications national and local, such as USA Today, Adventure Travel, Biz New Orleans, Offbeat, The Lens, and many others.  For fun, I write novels (hopefully coming to you soon!), poetry, and satire, particularly for Krewe du Vieux.

When you have something to communicate — a story to tell, people to motivate — let’s talk about how I can put together the right words for you.

How I Work With Clients

I approach each new communication for each client as a unique problem to be creatively solved.  Every business is different, every clientele is specific to that business.  Thus, every communication on behalf of that business (or organization) is customized for maximum impact and effect.

My process begins with asking questions and listening carefully to the answers, drawing out as much relevant information as possible.  Some initial brainstorming may take place at this time.  Then I apply my extensive experience and expertise to crafting the exact format and words to achieve the desired result.  When I submit the first version to the client, I include an explanation of what I did, why I did it that way, and why I think this is the correct approach.  I always welcome input from the client, and am happy to discuss the work and make revisions as needed.

My only objective is to maximize my clients’ return on their investment in my services:  to achieve the exact results that each client was looking for from the beginning of the project.
